Cyprus Currency

In January 2008, the Euro became the official currency used in Cyprus, after 129 years of the Cyprus Pound. Like travelling to most countries there are three main options available to take money with you on holiday.

Nationwide Bank Account

If you prefer to take little or no money with you, the Nationwide Building Society offers no commission charges for withdrawing your cash abroad on all accounts, unlike most other banks. However you are tied to the currency exchange rate at the time of withdrawal.

Travellers Cheques and Cash

If you are looking to take cash or travellers cheques on holiday with you, there are many companies that offer currency exchange, however we would recommend www.travelex.co.uk above any of the others. As well as offering 0% commission and a price guarantee, travelex offer a new service called the Cash Passport - Travel Currency Card which we would describe as a pre-paid debit card. The following is taken from the travelex website:

Cash Passport - Travel Currency Card

Cash Passport is the newest way to carry money abroad since the invention of the travellers cheque. It is quite simply a card which you pre-load with your spending money before you travel. Then you can use your Cash Passport card to withdraw cash from ATMs or to spend money in shops, restaurants and hotels while you're away, exactly as you would use a bank card at home.
